ఇక్కడ frame మార్చాలి. ఎందుకంటే ఈ నలుగురి కథ, నాకు ఒక అర్ధరాత్రి, ఒక friend చెప్పాడు — వాడి cousin Brodipet hostel లో ఉన్నాడు అని. ఆ story విన్నప్పుడు నాకు గుర్తు వచ్చింది — విక్రముడు, బేతాళుడు, ఆ అవిశ్రాంత నడక, ఆ ప్రతి రాత్రి question. Modern dilemma ఎప్పుడూ classical frame కోరుతుంది, ఎందుకంటే dilemma లో answer కంటే, question యొక్క shape ముఖ్యం. ఈ రాత్రి, విక్రముడు చెట్టు దగ్గరికి వెళ్ళాడు. శవం నిద్రపోతున్నట్టు ఉంది — కానీ బేతాళుడు, ఎప్పటిలాగే, లోపల మేల్కొని ఉన్నాడు.

But the deeper truth is different. Two cracked the exam; two did not. And of the two who cracked, only one will get into the IAS directly, based on preference matching and state cadre allocation. Vidyā vinaya sampanne — వాడు embody చేశాడు. కానీ బేతాళా, నువ్వు చెప్పిన danger real. Model minority trap. Swapna ని future లో use చేస్తారు — government schools ఇంకా weak గా ఉండటం ki justification గా. 'Swapna cleared without good school, so the school doesn't need reform.' ఆ narrative ని Swapna refuse చేయాలి. వాడి own story ని public లో confess చేయాలి — 'నేను exception ని, rule కాదు. System reform అవ్వాలి.' అప్పుడు వాడి vinaya complete."
విక్రమ్: "ఇక్కడే ఒక శ్లోకం recall చేయాలి. ఈ శ్లోకం Bhagavad Gita 5.18 —"
విక్రమ్: (గంభీరంగా) "Vidyā-vinaya-sampanne brāhmaṇe gavi hastini, śuni caiva śva-pāke ca paṇḍitāḥ sama-darśinaḥ."
విక్రమ్: "పండితుడు అంటే ఎవడు? Knowledge ఉండి, humility ఉండి, ఎవడు brahmin ని, ఆవును, ఏనుగుని, కుక్కని, కుక్క తిన్న చండాలుని — అందరినీ సమాన దృష్టితో చూస్తాడో. Administrator యొక్క ultimate test ఇది. Civil services ranking 87 అవ్వడం easy part. Karnool collector ఆఫీస్ లో కూర్చుని, ఒక daily wage laborer, ఒక tech industrialist, ఒక tribal woman, ఒక రాజకీయ నాయకుడు — అందరినీ సమానంగా treat చేయడం — ఆ parīkṣā."
విక్రమ్: "ఇప్పుడు నా verdict — నలుగురిలో ఒక్కరే IAS అయ్యారు (Swapna). ఇంకొక్కరు IPS (Imran). కానీ 'who won?' అని నేను judge చేస్తే —"
విక్రమ్: "Swapna won in the exam. కానీ real vidyā vinaya exam ahead. వాడు model minority trap ని navigate చేయకపోతే, వాడు సాధారణ successful officer. Navigate చేస్తే, వాడు transformative."
విక్రమ్: "Imran won in the exam. కానీ వాడి real test — pipeline నుంచి independent reformer గా evolve అవ్వడం. Uniform ని shield గా use చేస్తే, limited. Instrument గా use చేస్తే, unlimited."
విక్రమ్: "Ramana failed exam. కానీ వాడు తన dream ని parents' dream నుంచి detach చేస్తే, next five years లో, వాడు APPSC coaching faculty గా, హజారో students కి mentor అవ్వగలడు. ఆ role ఒక IAS collector role కంటే low-status గా కనిపిస్తుంది, కానీ impact count చేస్తే, equivalent కావచ్చు. వాడి real exam — తన ego grief ని ignore చేసి, తన current role ని dignified గా embody చేయడం."
విక్రమ్: "Mahesh failed exam. కానీ వాడి real exam — తన career decision ని regret లేకుండా, tech lead గా తిరిగి, తన daughter Vidhya ని ఒక ethical consumer of technology గా పెంచడం. IAS seat దొరకలేదంటే civil service impact impossible కాదు. Product decisions, platform design, hiring choices — ఇవన్నీ civic impact. ఆ awareness తో Mahesh work చేస్తే, వాడు కూడా administrator ఒక different definition లో."
విక్రమ్: "Final answer బేతాళా — Vidyā vinaya sampanne నలుగురిలో ఎవరు embody చేస్తారు అనేది, exam results తర్వాత పది ఏళ్ళకు verify అవుతది. Exam ఒక checkpoint, final answer కాదు. నలుగురూ sadhakas. Seat ఒక్కటే, కానీ sadhana four tracks. Real winner — తమ path ని తామే engineer చేసుకొని, fail ని లేదా success ని తమ dharma transformation కి fuel గా convert చేసేవాడు."
బేతాళుడు: (చాలాసేపు silence. తర్వాత, mock కాకుండా) "రాజా. ఈ answer complete. నాకు blame చేయడానికి ఏమీ లేదు. నువ్వు 'who cracked the exam?' అన్న ప్రశ్న ని 'who cracked life?' అనే ప్రశ్నగా reframe చేశావ్. అది సరైన administrator మనస్తత్వం."

బేతాళుడు: "సరే. ఇది మీ chance, రాజా. నేను ఈ శవం నుంచి బయటపడాల్సినది ప్రశ్నకి మీరు జవాబిచ్చేసారు. కాబట్టి నేను మళ్ళీ చెట్టు పైకి ఎగిరిపోతున్నా — old rules. కానీ తెలుసా, నువ్వు తిరిగి వచ్చేలోగా, ఆ Brodipet room 104 — అది empty కాలేదు. మరో నలుగురు వచ్చి కూర్చున్నారు. కథ continue అవుతది. ఎన్ని రాత్రులు నువ్వు వచ్చినా, ఈ hostel గదులు, ఈ aspirants — వీరి frame-by-frame dilemma continue అవుతది."
బేతాళుడు చెట్టు పైకి మళ్ళీ చేరుకున్నాడు. విక్రముడు నిలబడ్డాడు. ఆకాశం లో, తూర్పు వైపు, ఒక fine line of grey — తెల్లవారు రావడం మొదలు. కానీ విక్రముడు వెనక్కి చూడలేదు. అతను తెలుసుకున్నాడు — ప్రతి రాత్రి కథ new, ప్రతి రాత్రి answer new. Frame మాత్రమే classical. శవం మాత్రమే constant. ప్రశ్న ఎప్పుడూ evolving.
ఈ కథ write చేయడం మొదలుపెట్టిన రోజు, నేను ఒక UPSC 2024 rank 8 interview video చూశా — Economic Times YouTube channel లో. ఆ అమ్మాయి Srikakulam district, government Telugu medium background, తల్లి SHG worker. ఆ interview లో ఒక sentence నన్ను నిలబెట్టింది — "Sir, coaching లేకపోయినా మాకు ఒక advantage ఉంది. మేము syllabus topic లని textbook లో కాదు, ground లో చూశాం. Farm distress, migration, health system gaps — we've lived inside them. Our mains paper answers aren't academic; they're testimony." ఆ sentence నా tongue మీద ఒక వారం stick అయింది. అదే reason తో ఈ కథలో Swapna ఒక central archetype. Brodipet, Vaidya IAS academies, మరి అన్ని coaching mills — ఇవి ఒక industry. కానీ crackers తరచూ, coaching outside నుంచి, raw అనుభవం తో వస్తారు. నేను గతంలో Hyderabad LBSNAA probationer friend ఒకరితో dinner చేశాను (2024 December, Banjara Hills ఒక dhaba) — వాడు చెప్పాడు: "కోచింగ్ ఫీజ్ ₹3 lakhs పోస్తే confidence కొంటవు, marks కొంటావు. Nuance, humility, deep question stamina — ఇవి గడప తీసుకొని రావాలి. ఆ గడప ఎక్కడి నుంచి వస్తది — ఇంట్లో, గ్రామం లో, తాత చెప్పిన కథల్లో." ఆ మాట నాకు confirmation ఇచ్చింది. ఈ కథ ఇదే feeling ని carry చేస్తుంది. మీ ఇంట్లో ఎవరైనా UPSC aspirant ఉన్నారా? ఆరు ఏళ్ళ mark cross అయిందా? family conversation ఎలా mature అయింది?
