Refuse చేసి, వాళ్ళ ఇంటికి గౌరవంగా వెళ్ళి, వాళ్ళకు explain చేసి, నీ dharma state service లో ఉంటుంది అని చెప్తే — అది సేవ."
బేతాళుడు: పెదనాన్న పిలిచి ఒక కప్పు black tea ఇచ్చారు. బేతాళుడు: "సరే, తిరిగి చెట్టుకి. నువ్వు answer ఇచ్చావు, నేను శవంతో ఎగిరిపోతా. కానీ ఈసారి — ఆ శవం బరువులో ఒక తగ్గుదల ఉంది feel అవుతుందా? ప్రతి correct answer తర్వాత, శవం ఒక cell తక్కువ అవుతుంది. ఒక రోజు, శాంతి లాంటి వాళ్ళు ఇంకా correct answers ఇస్తే, ఈ శవం పూర్తిగా disappear అవుతుంది. అప్పుడు నేను free. నువ్వు free."
బేతాళుడు వెళ్ళిపోయాడు. విక్రముడు నిలబడ్డాడు. చెట్టు దిశగా తల తిప్పాడు, కానీ ఈ రాత్రి తిరిగి వెళ్ళలేదు. ఒక bench మీద కూర్చున్నాడు. జేబులో ఒక చిన్న note-book తీశాడు, ఒక pen తీశాడు. ఒక list రాశాడు — satyam, śaucham, dayā, kṣānti, ārjavam. తన rule గా. తనకు కూడా ఒక kingdom ఉంది. తనలోనూ ఒక శాంతి ఉంది, ఒక సాగర్ ఉంది, ఒక Raghavendra family ఉంది. రోజూ decide చేయాలి — దాస్యమా, సేవనా.
నా ఆమ్మమ్మ Karimnagar లో 40 ఏళ్ళు ఒక advocate ఇంట్లో cook గా పనిచేసింది. ఆ family తన కూతురిని — అంటే మా అమ్మని — BEd చదివించారు, ₹8,000 monthly stipend లాంటిది అప్పట్లో. మా అమ్మ తర్వాత government teacher అయింది. Last year November 2025 లో మా అమ్మకు ఒక WhatsApp వచ్చింది — ఆ family granddaughter ఇప్పుడు lawyer, ఆమె client కోసం ఒక school admission favor అడిగింది. మా అమ్మ refuse చేసింది, చాలా politely. ఆ family తో relations strain అయ్యాయి. మా అమ్మ ఆరు నెలలు ఏడ్చింది. కానీ next year — ఆ family granddaughter ఒక inner clarity తో వచ్చి thanks చెప్పింది. "మీరు no అన్నందుకు, నేను ఒక real lawyer అయ్యాను. Favor పాత్రలో ఉండి practice కాలేదు" అని. ఈ exchange చూసి నేను అర్థం చేసుకున్నా — Satyam śaucham dayā kṣāntir ārjavam అనే list ఒక bureaucrat code కాదు, ఒక family code కూడా. ఈ 2024-2026 period లో Telangana లో కొత్తగా IAS/IPS officers join అవుతున్నారు — చాలా మంది non-privileged backgrounds నుంచి. వాళ్ళందరి ముందు ఒక శాంతి dilemma ఉంది. వారికి ఒక పెదనాన్న కావాలి. మీ ఇంట్లో ఎవరైనా officer అయ్యి ఇలా ఒక family request face చేశారా?
